The Enneagram is one of the most useful tools I have found for living a rich life. It help you understand what gets in your way of living a truly happy life. Based on the assumption that we have all we need within us, it asserts that we keep looking for what we want in all the wrong places. It's not what we're looking for that matters; it's where we're looking from. Our problem is one of perception: we literally can't see the nose on our face. We can't see how our patterns of thinking, believing, feeling and acting take us further away from our true goal: happiness. The Enneagram also clarifies what prevents us from enjoying the satisfying connections we seek with our family, spouses, friends, co-workers and even people we thought we didn't like. Below you will find a brief description of what the Enneagram is, how I teach it, and a list of classes beginning with the introductory class Perception is Everything. What is the Enneagram?
The Enneagram is a dynamic tool for understanding yourself and others. Based in ancient and modern spiritual systems, it has been further researched and developed by psychiatrists, psychologists, educators, consultants and counselors over the past thirty-five years. This personality system is used in business, counseling and by anyone seeking better relationships, self-understanding and community building. The Enneagram describes nine distinct ways of seeing the world. Discovering your way (your personality type) allows you to understand your deeper motivations, your patterns of feeling and behaving and those of others. |

How I teach the Enneagram
While the Enneagram is something you can learn about, it is best used as a tool to learn from. That is, bringing the information together with your daily experiences allows these teachings to come alive. They become less intellectual, more embodied and more useful. I have found that the Enneagram is best absorbed through four learning modalities: lectures and reading, listening to people's personal stories (oral tradition), self-observation practices, and group discussion. Using these modalities, my programs consist of the following: Perception is Everything: An Introduction to the Enneagram This one-day class is an introduction to the Enneagram. I provide a background for the information and lay the groundwork for how to approach it. After you take a simple assessment test, you will watch a one-hour video introducing you to the nine personality types. The rest of the day consists of guided meditations, short vignettes and group discussion on each of the nine types. See details >> Follow-up class This small 90-minute class is included as part of the introductory class. It is an opportunity for you to talk about and ask questions about your personality type and learn about ways to further your understanding E-Labs: Enneagram Practice Sessions E-Labs are condensed learning experiences for you to increase your knowledge of your Enneagram type and to put your learning into practice. Each E-lab includes more information about each type, skills for increasing your awareness, and role-plays and exercises for integrating the information. Think of them as language labs, a place to learn by doing. Pre-requisite: Enneagram Intro or equivalent.
